Accessibility at York Distillery
We want all our visitors to feel welcome and included. Below you’ll find clear answers to common accessibility questions. If you have specific needs, please get in touch before your visit so we can make suitable arrangements.
Steps and Building Access
York Distillery is housed in a listed historic building, created by repurposing a former swimming pool. Access to the distillery is via a short flight of steps with a secure handrail. Unfortunately, the building’s listed status means we are unable to install permanent ramps or make structural alterations. Our team are always available to provide assistance where needed.
Toilets
Toilets are located within Middleton’s Hotel, a short walk from the Distillery entrance and just past the hotel reception. Clear directions are given on arrival.
Assistance Dogs
All assistance dogs are warmly welcomed throughout York Distillery.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking can usually be arranged within the Middleton’s Hotel grounds. Please let us know in advance so we can reserve a suitable space for you.
Hearing Support
We provide a hearing loop for visitors with hearing impairments. Our group sizes are deliberately kept small, allowing our hosts to adapt each experience and ensure clear communication.
Sensory Accommodation
We make adjustments for guests with sensory needs. This may include lowering sound levels, offering more personal space, and pacing activities at a comfortable speed. If you would benefit from these adjustments, please let us know in advance or on the day.
Inclusive Experiences
We aim to ensure everyone feels part of the experience. Our team are skilled at engaging both first-time visitors and gin enthusiasts. Non-alcoholic options are always available, and we maintain a relaxed, welcoming environment for those who do not drink alcohol.
Why We Can and Can’t Make Changes
We can provide personalised support, pre-visit advice, and practical assistance during your visit. However, due to the listed status of our building and its fixed architecture, permanent structural changes such as ramps are not permitted. We focus instead on offering flexibility, understanding, and a high level of personal care to meet individual needs.
